Should I Use Keratin Treatments With Or Without Formaldehyde?

A keratin treatment is a process that smooths and straightens hair. You might hear it as a Brazilian keratin treatment or a Brazilian blowout. Applying products to the hair, blow-drying it, and sealing it with a flat iron. There are different types of keratin with and without formaldehyde. So what is the difference?

Formaldehyde Free Keratin is the safest form of keratin. Leaving the smoothing effect for up to 6 months. It contains proteins and keratin to leave the hair glossy and smooth. The proteins help to reconstruct damage.

Keratin that contains formaldehyde which is a strong chemical that can cause side effects. The main side effects are eye irritation, headaches, dizziness and vomiting. Pregnant women cannot use keratin with formaldehyde.

Keratin treatments can be expensive so how can you maintain it? Washing your hair 2-3 times per week is enough! Ensure the hair is staying hydrated by using salt free hydrating shampoos and conditioners. Chemicals like Salt, SLES, Parabens etc are known to ruin keratin so make sure you read the ingredients! After the treatment wait at least 3 days before washing the hair will help the keratin penetrate. Blow-drying is a must rather than air drying. Following these after care instructions will prolong the effect for up to 6 months.
